Discuss and decide on the initial focus for what you will bring into the marketplace. Consider how you will create a structure with categories, governance with terms of use, and manage data operations with delivery methods and who will be in charge of these areas.
Discuss and define high-level categories to organize data. These categories may align with the data domains already established within your organization. Consider using familiar language that will resonate with your end users. Keep in mind that setting ownership at this level can be beneficial for alignment with an individual or group owner. Common examples include Sales, Human Resources, Marketing, etc
The 'Terms of Use' provides guidelines on how data should be treated appropriately. Allocate time with your governance team to discuss and define potential controls for your data, such as warnings regarding personally identifiable information. Additionally, promote permissive terms of use, emphasizing, for example, data that has undergone source-level anonymization and is readily accessible.
Consider which technologies you would like to use to share data across your organization. For instance, if you are starting your pilot with popular reports you might want to consider Tableau and Power BI as a good starting point.
