Assess the upgrade path for a single Informatica PowerCenter (PC) domain from the current installed version to the latest available version, considering the Informatica Platform Availability Matrix (PAM), upgrade approach options, and ecosystem constraints.
Key activities include:
(i) conducting a discovery workshop to collect information about the current PC environment, including domain topology, installed services and components (integration service, repository service, metadata manager, PowerExchange listener, etc.), operating system (OS), database, and ecosystem integrations
(ii) reviewing the current configuration against the latest Informatica PAM and upgrade documentation to identify the supported upgrade path, OS/database compatibility, and any end-of-support considerations
(iii) conducting an assessment of compatibility on all the source and target system versions in scope with the targeted PC version
(iv) conducting an applied emergency bug fix assessment to confirm availability in the higher versions of PC up to the target version
(v) evaluating upgrade approach options (e.g. in-place hotfix/upgrade versus parallel on new infrastructure) with consideration of risk, downtime requirements, and rollback strategy
(vi) assessing ecosystem constraints, in particular data warehouse or reporting solutions connected to the PC repository for job statistics extraction
(vii) documenting attention points, known issues, and prerequisites specific to the identified upgrade path
(viii) producing an upgrade assessment report covering as-is architecture, target architecture, recommended upgrade path, and attention points
The typical workshop schedule is as follows:
• Discovery Workshop: 1 meeting (2 hours) – key systems administrator, data architect and database administrator stakeholders
• PC domain is installed and operational (single domain scope)
• Customer to provide a list of its technical subject matter experts (e.g. technical lead, infrastructure/OS administrator) and ensure their availability to participate in the workshop and assessment activities
• Current PC version, OS version, database type and version, and domain topology information accessible prior to engagement
• Existing environment documentation (architecture diagrams, configuration records) shared with Informatica in advance, if available
• Key ecosystem integrations connected to the PC repository identified prior to engagement
• Customer to provide or confirm list of all source and target systems currently being used in PC that are in scope, along with their versions
• Customer to add or request from Global Customer Support (GCS) via support ticket to add involved Solution Architect(s) from Informatica to the Informatica GCS portal
• As-is PC domain architecture documented, including domain topology, installed services, components, and versions
• Target architecture defined based on the latest supported PC version per the current PAM
• Supported upgrade path from current version to latest version identified and validated against the PAM
• Upgrade approach options evaluated (in-place vs. parallel) with recommended approach and rationale documented for one (1) PC domain
• Ecosystem constraints assessed, including data warehouse connections to the PC repository for job statistics extraction
• Attention points, risks, and prerequisites identified for the recommended upgrade path
• PowerCenter Upgrade Assessment Report (including as-is environment documentation, target architecture overview, recommended upgrade path, upgrade approach evaluation, attention points, and identified risks)
