CDGC IBM Mainframe Scanner Accelerator
Set up and configure the IBM Mainframe scanner to extract metadata from up to one hundred (100) Job Control Language (JCL) programs in a typical mainframe application (i.e., banking system, insurance management system, etc.) and ingest this metadata and lineage into Cloud Data Governance and Catalog (CDGC) to support data management and integration.
Key activities include:
(i) reviewing related business drivers and defining a use case for scanner implementation
(ii) confirming technical requirements
(iii) configuring the IBM Mainframe scanner
(iv) executing scanning processes
(v) facilitating knowledge transfer to Customer CDGC subject matter experts (this will be completed on an iterative basis over the course of the engagement)
Note: A high level of collaboration with the Customer CDGC subject matter experts is crucial to successful scanner implementation.
• Customer has implemented CDGC, and their CDGC instance includes catalog contents from other sources that provide the endpoints for JCL jobs (example DB2 z/OS)
Note: The lineage information from JCL jobs can only be applied to assets that have been ingested into the catalog by Customer.
• Customer to provide remote access to their Intelligent Data Management Cloud environment
• Customer will ensure the subject matter experts responsible for IBM Mainframe scanner configuration and maintenance will be available to independently complete configuration, execution, and debugging tasks
• Customer will ensure availability of Customer JCL subject matter experts, as needed
• Customer to provide access to applicable JCL scripts
• Customer to provide access to all external SQL scripts and copybook files referenced inside JCL scripts
• Customer to provide access to all databases referenced inside JCL (to catalog only)
• Up to one hundred (100) JCL programs scanned, with the intent to provide detailed insights into the mainframe application
Note: The IBM Mainframe scanner can create technical assets, such as programs, copybooks, calculations, JCL steps, JCL jobs, etc. The number of assets scanned into CDGC depends on various factors, such as complexity of code and how jobs are organized.
• Technical assets and lineage generated within CDGC
• Customer CDGC subject matter experts equipped with the guidance to independently deploy, configure, and refine IBM Mainframe scanner projects
• Deployment documentation provided to support ongoing operations and ensure a clear understanding of the deployment process
• CDGC IBM Mainframe Scanner Technical Requirements and Scope Definition Document
• MetaDex CDGC IBM Mainframe Scanner Deployment Runbook
